SWC Championship

It was Thursday, November 18th, 2004. A perfect night for football on the beautiful Trumbull High School turf field in Trumbull, CT. The 9-0 Bobcats of Brookfield and the 9-0 Pomperaug Panthers. For myself and all of my teammates, this was the most incredible night of our lives. To summarize exactly what happened on that night is a pretty tough feat, but the people that witnessed it are aware of exactly how amazing of a night it really was. There were about 2,500 people there, friends, former players, coaches, other teams, all conference players, News Channel 8, TV crews, photographers, 4 different newspapers, family members, a slew of Bobcats fans, and of course - the wonderful, the incredible, Pomperaug Fans. Throughout the game, I heard air horns, cow bells, sirens, hooting, hollering, and parents yelling until their throats burned and their voices were completely gone. I can't say enough about how appreciative we were to see everyone there, and to hear everyone yelling for us. Its just an unexplainable feeling, something you can feel inside you but can't put words to. The way we described how we felt that night was displayed in bright white lights on the scoreboard, 32 - 0. The entire team was amped for this game, and being able to fight for the title in front of the people we love just made it even more incredible.

Brookfield was supposed to be the best defense in the SWC, with only 3 points scored against them in 9 games, you can't help denying that they are a pretty good football team. 3 points against was the lowest in the state, 8 shutouts in 9 games is another statistic thats hard not to notice. Unfortunately for Brookfield and their fans, they DON'T have the best offense OR defense in the SWC - we do. Before the game, I specifically recall several events in which Brookfield fans/players made me laugh. The first of which was my messageboard. Constantly for a length of close to 7 days, people posted comments on my messageboard saying how much Brookfield was going to "kick our *honk*" or "run us over" and so forth. Numerous posts claimed we would be crushed in an instant, funny how people are always right.... The next instance was on the forum of Birdseyesports.com. Former opponents like New Fairfield Quarterback Justin Nabozna predicted a 35-0 Brookfield win. And on the final note, who could forget the Brookfield fans? I specifically recall running pre-game drills on the turf and hearing the chants of Brookfield fans from across the way. Keep in mind, this was before the first snap of the ball... Brookfield fans chant in unison.. "IT'S ALL OVER.... IT'S ALL OVER...." The irony of such a statement, 48 minutes of play later it WAS all over.... FOR BROOKFIELD. For fans to chant such a thing before the game even started is absolutely ridiculous - and boy did it feel good to shut them up after ONE play from scrimmage.

On a final note.. this was the most incredible game of the year, and it feels amazing to be 11- 0 and the South-West Conference Champions again. Brookfield is a great football team and they put up a very good fight to start the end of an already great season. It was a pleasure to play them in the Championship game and it was definately a game to remember. Great battle Brookfield, great battle Pomperaug, and thank you to everybody for being a part of this amazing season and championship.... ON TO STATES WE GO.
